Challenge San Remo

FROM NERVES…

When you head to bed the night before with that ball of nerves in your stomach… Remind yourself you choose to do this.

When you wake up on race morning and choke on a single slice of toast… Remind yourself you get to do this.

When you stand on the start line peeing in your wetsuit for the third time in as many minutes… Wriggle your toes in the sand, watch the rising sun and remind yourself how much of a privilege this is.

It may be war out on the racecourse
But winning isn’t really about coming home before everyone else
… TO APPRECIATION

A few months ago I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it anymore. It took a lot of soul searching and a very special person to get me back out there at Challenge San Remo this weekend.

I pulled away on a nasty climb with an even nastier descent and stayed clear.

But while it may be war out on the racecourse, winning isn’t really about coming home before everyone else. It’s good for the ego and the sponsors and the bank account, but I’d won my own race way before the finish line.

A massive thank you and well done to the event organisers & volunteers and to all my competitors for the challenge.

Until next time.
